Equipment designed to prevent hyperflexion and severe damage, boots are essential for any rider. That said, few things lead to a poor experience like a bad footwear.

Because there are multiple entry-level boots on the market ranging in quality, many new riders have a hard time adjusting to what can be a restrictive form piece of gear. That's why Fox tries to make their Comp boots affordable and easy to ride in.

The Comp line is designed for new and casual riders. That said, theyโ€™re also phenomenal for ATV riding.

Two of the most established lines on the market, the Comp and Comp X boots recently went through multiple upgrades. While the old models ran between $160-210, the features of the current generation make the $260-270 price points worth it.

Adding security, the Comp line has a fourth buckle to provide a more accurate fit. Unique to the industry, Fox sells half-sizes to ensure they carry a boot for every rider.

Inside, the Comps have thermoplastic polyurethane plating on the toe cap, heel cap, calf guard and shin. A flat inner side increases surface area to allow for closer contact with the bike. The Comps and Comp Xs also feature outsoles that use PosiTac, a durable rubber compound that's exclusive to Fox.ย

For riders wanting a boot that's tailored to mountain riding, Fox has the Comp Xs. $10 more than the standard Comps, the Comp Xs use an open thread pattern on the outsole to provide better traction for off-road and trail riding. Although the Comp Xs are made for tough terrain, they are roughly the same weight as the standard boots.
