One of the most revered names in motocross boots, Alpinestars’ Tech 3 and Tech 7 lines are industry staples for multiple reasons.
Rider’s love them not only for their awesome design, but for the comfort and protection they provide as well. For those currently looking for a pair, here are some things we love about the current models.
Tech 3s
Considered the company’s entry-level boot, the Tech 3’s offer exciting features to new riders. While some beginner boots are stiff and limit mobility, Alpinestars uses a microfiber material on the upper part of the Tech 3 to allow for ankle movement.
Common on the brand, the Tech 3’s have a tough and roomy toe box, making them protective and easy to ride in. A soft foam surrounding the ankle and a textile material lining the entire boot add comfort as well.
The foot-shield has also been injected with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and reinforced by a metal shank inside. On the top of the calf protector, Alpinestars made a rear gaiter patch out of thermoplastic rubber (TPR) to provide extra rear flex.
A brand that’s known for creating durable products, Alpinestars builds the Tech 3s to last. All straps and soles are replaceable in case the boots run into issues down the road.
A pair of Tech 3s typically run around $200-250.
“Anyone who’s just getting started with riding motorcycles or an ATV rider, if you’re going out cruising around, you still want that protection,” sponsored freestyle motocross rider Alan Dixon said. “The Tech 3 offers that.”
Tech 7s
A step up, some distinguishing characteristics separate the Tech 7s and Tech 3s.
“These are the boots that I personally use. I love these boots,” Dixon said. “They have saved my ankles many times.”
The Tech 7s feature aluminum bridges rather than plastic to provide memory settings and quick release, making these a get-on-and-go kind of boot.
Looking at the boot chassis, Alpinestars designed the Tech 7s to provide mobility on shifts and rear brakes. The upper part of the boot is also reinforced with polyurethane, making these light, durable and water resistant.
Typically, these boots are priced around $400-450.
