An overland-style machine, Polaris unveiled their new Xpedition side-by-side on May 16.
“The Polaris Xpedition debuts a capable but costly ATV alternative to overloading rigs based on passenger trucks and SUVs,” Jalopnik writer José Rodriguez Jr. said.
Polaris says their new machine “is built to get deep into the backcountry.” Coming with a 999cc engine, the Xpedition is capable of producing 114 horsepower. The new machine also has 14” of ground clearance, 30" tires and a FOX suspension setup. Its 12.5 gallon gas tank gives it a 200 mile range.
Like the General, the Xpedition’s designed to be playful and practical. The new machine comes with a winch, a bumper, doors and a roof stock. Inside the cab, riders are greeted by comfortable seats and a JBL speaker system.
Polaris gave the new machine a box capable of carrying 600 lbs and a tow hitch rating of 2,000 lbs. Paired with a roof-rack system, riders can strap multiple items to the machine like kayaks and mountain bikes.
“We identified a definitive opportunity in the market around outdoor adventure and an increasing amount of consumers pursuing outdoor experiences, from the more traditional things like camping, hiking, hunting and fishing, to more sport-oriented, athletic pursuits like mountain biking or kayaking,” Polaris' president of off road Steve Menetto said. “We are driving our industry forward, once again, with innovation in the adventure side-by-side market to meets the needs of passionate adventurers.”
Starting at $28,999 for the two-seater and $32,999 for the 5-seater, the Xpedition's XP model has an open bed while the ADV model has a closed cargo space. Both models offer Premium, Ultimate and Northstar packages — each varying in accessories offered.
